4 tips for applying bronzer and making it last
I’ll be the first to admit that I’ve made some pretty poor beauty decisions during my twenty-one years. There were the blue streaks in my hair during high school, the pink eye shadow that made me look diseased, my sophomore year lob… But one of my most unfortunate makeup looks would have to be the way I applied bronzer back in middle school AKA the era of bad beauty and fashion choices. | via
beauty tips for the shower
Some of the world’s best inventions, philosophies, and ideologies were probably thought up mid-bathe. Most of us do our best thinking (and best beautifying) in the shower. But where did the genius concept of bathing come from anyway? Our earliest understanding of showers started with the waterfall. Ancient people would immerse themselves in natural springs for a good scrub. Then, there was evidence of Egyptian and Mesopotamians having indoor bathing rooms in homes of the upperclass. Sure, these involved a jug, some cold water, and servant bathing them — but it was the closest thing to hygiene they had available. The first real showers, with pipes and all that hip, modern technology was brought to us by the ancient Greeks, who created communal showers for the elite and commoners alike. Save water, shower with the whole town, as they used to say. I think. | via

6 mistakes you're making when you wash your hair
I’m naturally shy around new people, and as a result, I use my long, thick hair as my security blanket. I couldn’t fathom cutting it short and embracing fall’s long bob trend, although I will admit I’m secretly lusting after Emma Stone’s new ‘do. But keeping it long comes at a price — I have to take extra special precautions to keep it healthy, or I’ll just end up looking like a homeless hippie. Not a cute look.
Over the years, through talking to stylists, experimenting with new methods, traveling around the world and learning tidbits from other cultures, or just talking with my friends, I’ve collected a lot of info about hair and I think I’ve finally got my haircare routine down to a science. Truly, my hair has never looked or felt healthier, nor has my routine ever been easier. But my knowledge didn’t come without trial and tribulation, and what I learned from it all is that we’ve been washing our hair totally wrong. So turn off that shower head and toss out those regular old bath towels, because it’s time to adopt an entirely new hair routine. Trust me, your locks will thank you. | via
4 ways to fade scars on your face
Most of us will have to deal with facial marks at some point in our life — whether they be a result of acne or more intense surgical or traumatic scars. Facial markings are an annoyance, for sure. For some, though, they are debilitating. “Some of my patients are battling acne scarring from their adolescent years until their middle age,” says Santa Monica-based dermatologist Dr. Soheil Simzar. “It can affect their daily self-esteem — depending on the severity, some are very cognizant of avoiding certain types of overhead lighting that makes scarring more noticeable. | via
An easy way to get shiny, healthy hair
I’ll be honest with you — living, as I do, in Chiberia, the ends of my hair feel like straw. (Fine, maybe it’s not Chiberia; maybe it’s the DIY ombré dye job I gave myself a few months ago, but whatever.) I need help, and I’m willing to bet that you do, too. Go ahead. Feel those split ends. | via
8 hair product DIYs for shiny hair
So, you’re not much of a DIY’er. It’s just not your jam. Your idea of making something from scratch is pouring cake mix into a bowl and adding some eggs. I totally get it. But if you’re ever going to break into the world wide web of arts and crafts, you should start with homemade hair products. Why? Because it’s easy. And because it’s really difficult to mess up. And unlike these sneaker hacks or DIY printables, you can totally start over again without having to run to the store to get more materials…because most everything in these hair product recipes are already in your kitchen cabinet. | via

How to master facial contouring
Facial contouring: It’s that thing you’ve seen all the A-listers do with their makeup, but you aren’t really sure how you are supposed to pull it off.
“A beautifully contoured cheekbone is everything in my opinion,” says makeup artist Joyce Bonelli, who is known for her amazing cheekbone work on Kim Kardashian and Nicki Minaj. She defines contouring as sculpting the face’s natural shadows to create shape and light. “It will help to define the shape of your face and give you an overall polished look.”. | via
