4 ways to fade scars on your face

4 ways to fade scars on your face

Most of us will have to deal with facial marks at some point in our life — whether they be a result of acne or more intense surgical or traumatic scars. Facial markings are an annoyance, for sure. For some, though, they are debilitating. “Some of my patients are battling acne scarring from their adolescent years until their middle age,” says Santa Monica-based dermatologist Dr. Soheil Simzar. “It can affect their daily self-esteem — depending on the severity, some are very cognizant of avoiding certain types of overhead lighting that makes scarring more noticeable.  | via

Makeup Magic: Lose Pounds in Minutes with Highlighting and Contouring!

There are tons of variations and methods to highlighting and contouring with makeup, but the basic principles are the same. 5 quick fixes for oily skin

If you were born with an oily skin type, you know its challenges. You’ve got skin that always looks shiny… greasy, even, and it’s generally concentrated around your forehead, T-zone and nose.  “Skin oilness usually hits around puberty and is worse during your period,” says NYC dermatologist Doris Day. The good news is, she says, it tends to get better as you age, and “people with oilier skin do tend to wrinkle a little less.” So, bright side! But that doesn’t help you when your makeup is slipping off and your face feels like a grease pit. | via

That’s when I spy a roll of sticky film sitting casually on the corner of my desk… via

Remove all of your makeup and get a clear complexion using ingredients you already have around your house.

While I truly love my amateur experimentation in the world of makeup, I gotta say, it’s tough on the skin. A little mascara is one thing, but a full face of makeup — whether it’s your regular foundation/blush/highlighter combo, or pale white vampire skin — can be hard to get off, resulting in irritated, scrubbed-raw skin that’s just crying out for a little hydration. Well, here’s how to remove an entire face of makeup in mere seconds, while simultaneously giving yourself a mini facial. | via

6 tips to improve your posture

Many of us had our mothers bugging us for years to stand up straight. While the nagging may have been annoying, they probably had a point. Having good posture not only makes you look better and improves confidence, but it helps with breathing and circulation, decrease muscle spasms, and even helps your mood.

“When someone is confident and in a winning mood, they bring their shoulders back, their head over their shoulders and their arms raised up,” says Marvin C. Lee, a chiropractor in Los Angeles. “Good posture can promote these feelings.”

With so many people sitting at their desks for the majority of the day, bad posture has become commonplace. Having bad posture can negatively affect your body, including your back, jaw, hips, and knees. This can cause a lot of pain, along with long-term damage. | via

How To Prep Your Skin For Summer

How To Prep Your Skin For Summer

Spring is upon us and the cold weather is slowly retreating. If you haven’t already lifted your face to soak in the sun’s warm rays, you will be soon, as summer is just around the corner. But you all know that with the wonderful life that thrives when the sun decides to break through the clouds there is also the risk of sunburn and maybe eventually skin cancer. Ultraviolet radiation is proven to be a cause of cancer so sunscreen that absorbs or blocks those harmful rays from your skin should practically be an extension of your body and you should apply some every day. With more than 25 years of experience in dermatologic surgery and dermatology, Dr. Janet Prytowsky weighs in and provides valuable information to consider as you make decisions about sunscreen.

Moisturize: Throughout the winter months, maybe your skin was a little ashy and dry, nearly all the moisture sucked away. Now, as you expose your skin to the warmth and humidity in the air, your skin is starting to recover by shedding the dead, dry skin and turning over new skin cells. It’s important to keep your skin moisturized to help your skin heal and to mitigate the stress on your skin. “It takes the skin a full month to cycle in all new cells so it will take a while for those damaged dried out cells to turn over,” Dr. Prytowsky said.

Blackhead Removal Using Pore Stripes DIY

Biore pore stripes are very popular and effective. I love using them but they don’t come cheap and of course you can only use them once but not many can afford them and i don’t blame you; but with this gorgeous tutorial below you can learn how to make your own pore stripes with only few cheap ingredients.

You will need: Unflavored gelatin, milk, measuring spoons, wooden stick, glass. Mix together one tablespoon of unflavored gelatin and 2 tablespoon of milk and mix them together until they look like the picture below. If the amount is not very smooth, consider adding more milk; Place the mixture into the microwave for about 15 seconds. Stir it well and apply it directly into the problematic areas immediately; if you have pores and blackheads all over your face you can easily apply it every where you find it reasonable.

Let it dry for about 15 minutes or longer is you see that is not well-dried. Start peeling the mixture with your fingers. It is fun and gross at same time but beauty comes at a price. Follow the picture tutorial below for better understanding. It is very effective and it makes your skin pore free and smooth.

They are also referred to as a stubborn skin problem that leads to the formation of a black pug, caused by the oxidation of oil and dead skin cells when exposed together to air. This leads to the widening of the hair follicle and creation of sebum. Sebum is a mixture of bacterial infection, oil and the skin secretes. Blackheads generally start showing up after puberty; this is caused due to increase in hormone levels which affects the skin making it oilier. This eventually leads to the formation of blackheads. Habits, hygiene and cleanliness can be another cause of blackheads reappearing. Cleaning the skin properly reduces accumulation of dead skin alternatively if skin is denied basic hygiene, it tends to accumulate the same and get clogged. 10 Homemade Natural Skin Care Recipes

You don’t have to fork out big bucks for great skin care. In fact, many department-store and drugstore brands of skin care products are packed full of harsh chemicals, toxic ingredients, artificial colors and more. Even so-called natural skin care brands may contain questionable ingredients that you wouldn’t want on your face.

10 Homemade Natural Skin Care Recipes

Want to look up the safety of your skin care products? Check out Environmental Working Group (EWG)’s Skin Deep database. It has the ingredients list and potential toxins of more than 68,000 personal care products.

I checked on a few products that I used to use for anti-wrinkle skin care and was floored to see the results. Most of the products ranged in the 5-6 range out of a total 10 (with 10 at the highest level of potential hazards and toxins). That’s troubling to consider.

Luckily, I’ve learned to make my own skin care products. It’s easy with products you already have in your bathroom and pantry. In fact, here are 10 natural skin care recipes that can replace an entire skin care regime you’d probably pay a fortune for at a department store.

Forget the harsh cleansers. Try this Foaming Face Wash. It’s gentle, yet effective in keeping skin clean and clear.

Facial Scrub

Exfoliate your skin with this luxurious DIY Facial Scrub. It’s similar to facial scrubs you’d get in a spa (with the same results), yet at a fraction of the price.

Facial Mask

Pamper yourself with one of these 8 Honey Facial Masks to rejuvenate skin and give it a healthy glow.

Toner

I can’t believe how much I used to shell out for toners. This DIY Facial Toner will literally cost you pennies and it’s hydrating, pH balanced and excellent for blemish-prone and combination skin.

Eye Cream

An effective eye cream doesn’t have to cost a fortune. Try this DIY Eye Cream to hydrate the eye area and fight wrinkles.

Moisturizer

Forget everything you know about moisturizers. Oil-free facial lotions can actually make the skin produce MORE oil than regular moisturizers or even facial oils. I have combination and blemish-prone skin, yet I absolutely LOVE this DIY Facial Oil Moisturizer with Sunscreen. It’s hydrating, but not oily – plus the addition of essential oils help to fight blemishes and fade sun spots. Here’s another Homemade Facial Lotion recipe.

Lip Balm

Think about how much you pay for lip balm. $2-4 for a tube doesn’t sound too expensive, right? You can actually make your own Organic DIY Lip Balm for Just $0.24 a Tube.

Facial Serum

Department-store brand facial serums are expensive – sometimes upwards of $50-$100 per bottle. Nourish skin naturally with this DIY facial serum. It costs pennies to make and includes just a few simple ingredients.

Shaving Cream

Ditch the aerosol shaving creams (which contain harmful ingredients) and try this DIY Shaving Cream. It’s excellent for both men (for facial hair) and women (for legs, under arms, etc.).

How to Get Started

The best way to get started with homemade natural skin care recipes is to start using quality ingredients. I recommend organic extra-virgin coconut oil, organic sweet almond oil, organic argan oil, organic beeswax and other DIY skin care supplies.
